Over a year ago I became a "mom". Though the three of the babies were born last year 4th and the eldest one is around 5 years old. But I still call him a baby.... When I brought the three babies homes last year in May the nurses had said that the oldest of the three ... he wouldn't survive. He was sooo tiny and thin. I could see his ribs through his skin. The first few days was a struggle. I couldn't spend as much time with him as I wanted to because I had to look after the other ones as well. They needed feeding every hour or so and then there was no one to look after them as well. So I took them home to my mum... We were scared to name them incase anything happened then we'll be devastated. Baby 1 stopped feeding after a day... You could imagine our terror. I went and bought baby bottles, different sized nipples, special baby formula (2 varieties), cerelac, etc etc... Me and Mum started taking turns... Staying up late nights and taking turns. I am a big softy and occasionally I would wipe the tears from my eyes. After a few hours my mum put a stop to all this snivelling. She said enough is enough. She took out a syringe and started force feeding Baby 1. We called the Doc but he said bring him after three days. There were no other specialists around... So we perservered for three days...
Finally when we did go, the baby had started feeding... It was like a blessing....

We named him Whisky.... And I have been relegated to the role of sister while my Mum is well..... Mum.
And this is Whisky now....

He weighs more than 60kg and is the tallest and biggest one of all. He is my Mums shadow.... He'll follow her anywhere. All of them cry when she leaves the compound. They'll cry till she returns...
Below is Marcus and then its Buzo.

And this are Marcus and Buzo now...

And heres the General himself: Bruno (He's five this year)

Well these are our babies... We love them alot. My Dad can't spend a single day without cuddling them or trying to lift them Usually they topple him down and start licking his face but they have great fun. My brother has to play with them otherwise his day isn't complete. He is the one who usually grooms them and keeps reminding Mum to call the Vet coz maybe one might be getting abit thinner.. He takes them for a ride in the car. My Mum can't stay without them and during her stay in hospital this year her friend gave her a picture of her "babies" so she could look at them whenever she wanted. And everytime one of us walked in through the door the first question she'll ask is "Hows my babies doing?"
Even if one doesn't eat properly the Vet comes home to have a look at all of them. And while she was in hospital the babies were silent and used to sit at the gate all the time. They refused to eat anything until we hand fed them one by one. They'll just sit and look at us with that question in their eyes.... "Where did you take our Mum?"
My dad's car as well as mine has been scratched badly because they used to stand up on hind legs and look for Mum in the car. So when Mum finally came home we had to bring them inside the house and let them see her so at least they'll be satisfied... But do you think that would be enough. No way was that enough. They took up permanent residence outside the door blocking anyone from going in or coming out without their approval. If the door becomes slightly ajar they will come inside and look for Mum... I think my mum's recovery is mostly due to their prayers :)

God listens to those who can't articulate words because when they pray, they pray with their heart..... And I have seen them cry silent tears while they were waiting for Mum to come home... Maybe I'm biased when I say that I have never seen such devotion in my life. Or such unconditional love :)
So thats why these are our babies rather than our pets. I miss them alot and whenever I call home I can hear them... almost as if they are saying "Hi How are you? When are you coming?" And whenever I go home I just fall in love more and more when I see their faces light up with happiness and their tails wagging and almost doing a 360 degree sweep. It just makes me so much happier. It almost breaks my heart to leave them and return to my dwelling....
